Last-Second Goal Gives Tartans 1-0 Victory at #16 John Carroll
(UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team advanced to 4-0 for the season with a 1-0 victory at 16th-ranked John Carroll University on Saturday, September 10. The Blue Streaks fall to 2-2 for the year.
Key Moment
With time ticking down in the second half, the Tartans earned a corner kick after a defender cleared the ball out following a pass lofted into the box. Senior Josh Baugh served the corner kick to the near post around the six-yard box. The ball wasn't cleared by the defense and senior Mason Shockley was able to get a touch on it inside the box to freshman Brendan Schonwetter who was unmarked and was able to quickly take the shot that screamed past the keeper and a defender on the post.
Thoughts from head coach Brandon Bowman
"John Carroll is a very talented team. We held strong defensively and showed real grit. In the end, we created a couple of clear chances and we were able to score off a last-second corner. We give great credit to our guys for showing true resilience and earning the victory."
