#8 Tartans Open UAA Play with Setback to NYU

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The eighth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team hosted New York University for the first University Athletic Association (UAA) contest of the season, falling 2-0 to the Violets after putting seven shots on goal. The Tartans are now 8-1-1 for the year, as the Violets improve to 4-3-1.

  • The Violets opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a goal by Arkan Tahsildaroglu with a right-footed blast to the far post side netting.
  • Freshman Liam Ryan made three saves in the first half to keep it a 1-0 game at the break with the defense saving another two shots.
  • The Tartans' offense got going in the second period but was unable to get on the board as Luca Mancuso made five saves with the team's defense making another.
  • The team save by the Violets came off a shot by sophomore Kuba Yiadom in the 77th minute.
  • NYU added to the score in the 69th minute with a goal by Terra Nagai.
  • Senior Jason Edmunds had two shots stopped by Mancuso in the 63rd and 64th minutes.
