Tartans Claim 11 Individual Victories In Win Over Grover City

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team claimed 11 individual victories while sweeping eight events at their home meet against Grove City College Saturday, November 10. The Tartans defeated Grove City College 191-97.

The Tartans had three swimmers win multiple events.  Sophomore Anton Razanav (San Diego, Calif./Westview) won the 100-yard backstroke in 53.78 before touching the wall first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:57.44.  Sophomore Cole Um (Federal Way, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) won both breaststrokes touching the wall with times of 1:00.32 in the 100-yard and 2:11.57 in the 200-yard. The third Tartan to win two events was junior Edward Sears (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River). Sears posted times of 21.79 in the 50-yard freestyle before touching the wall in 48.07 in the 100-yard freestyle. Both Sears' times were season-best marks.

For the second straight meet, the Tartans swept the 1,000-yard freestyle.  Freshman Steven Geier (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) led the charge with a time of 10:04.80.

Freshmen Martin Smith (Washington, D.C./The Bolles School) was first in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:49.5 while freshman Christopher Wysocki (Rockville, Md./Winston Churchill) won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.09.

Junior Terrence Wong (Solon, Ohio / Solon) led a sweep of the 100-yard butterfly with a time of .52.47 and sophomore David Campbell (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) also led a sweep as he touched in 1:56.37 in the 200-yard butterfly.

The Tartans will be in action again on Saturday, November 17 at 11:30 a.m. when they host their Quad Meet with Washington & Lee, Allegheny & Rochester.  Diving will take place on Friday, November 16 at 6:00 p.m.
