Tartans Ranked Eighth in CSCAA Division III Rankings

(EVANSTON, Ill.) - The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has announced its first Division III Swimming and Diving Team Rankings of the season and both Tartan squads sit eighth in the poll. The rankings are voted on by six CSCAA member coaches.

So far this season, the men's swimming and diving team have a dual meet record of 8-1 with their only loss coming to Case Western Reserve University at the season-opening meet at University of Rochester with Brandeis University and New York University. The men dominated in both home meets against Division II Clarion and Grove City while exhibitioning the last two events in their home quad meet against Allegheny College, Rochester and Washington & Lee University.

The women's team also has an 8-1 dual meet record with their lone loss coming at home to Division II Clarion. Junior Soleil Phan (Irvine, Calif./Beckman) is off to a great start as she earned University Athletic Association honors after winning three individual events against Grove City. For the year, Phan has placed first in nine individual events and four relays while recording three victories in a meet twice.

"It is nice both teams are ranked in the top ten and I think the rankings show our depth and increasing talent level this season," head coach Matt Kinney said. "With a small senior class, I think this represents the future of the team very well."

The CSCAA D3 Poll Committee will produce in-season rankings of the 20 best performing NCAA Division 3 Swimming and Diving teams in rank order at the time of each poll.  The poll is not designed to predict the results of the NCAA Championship, but rather which teams would win head-to-head against other teams in the country.

The rankings will be released three times during 2012-13 season. For the full rankings, click here.
