Tartans Equal with Nations Best at Kenyon Total Performance Invitational

(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team traveled to Kenyon College for the annual Total Performance Invitational with Kenyon, Grove City College, Davidson College and Lake Erie College and the University of Pennsylvania. The team finished third overall and had several times meet NCAA qualifying standards.

The 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Josh Lucheon (Knoxville, Tenn./Knoxville Catholic), junior Austin Bohn (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona), freshman Carter Sharer (Oakton, Va./Oakton High) and junior Edward Sears (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River) provisionally qualified for nationals with a time of 1:32.89.

The 800-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Matthew Nielsen (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods), freshman Steven Geier (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), Sharer and sophomore David Campbell (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) touched 10th in 6:56.11.

Freshman Christopher Wysocki (Rockville, Md./Winston Churchill) finished 11th in the 1,650-yard freestyle on Thursday night touching the wall in 16:07.36, dropping 33 seconds off his previous season-best time. Sophomore Andrew Yee (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) finished 14th in the event touching in a season-best time of 16:21.56. Freshman Joseph Robinson (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville) swam the event for the first time this season and finished 16th overall in 16:44.63.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Lucas Bruder (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette), Sharer, Bohn and Sears finished sixth in a season-best time of 1:25.37.

Bohn finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.22 while junior Terrence Wong (Solon, Ohio/Solon) finished eighth in the 100-yard butterfly in 51.45. Freshman Philip Farr (Campbell, Calif./Bellarmine College) was seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke as he finished in 2:09.15 but reached the finals with a 2:08.07 performance in the preliminaries.

Senior Brandon Yee (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) finished seventh in the 200-yard butterfly touching in a seson-best time 1:55.59 while sophomore Anton Razanav (San Diego, Calif./Westview) finished eighth in the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 52.44. Razanav later won the consolation final of the 200-yard backstroke and did so with a provisional qualifying time of 1:53.19.

Andrew Yee knocked six seconds off his season time in the 500-yard freestyle and finished fifth in the consolation final in 4:43.33.

Campbell touched sixth in the 400-yard IM in 4:08.61, qualifying for the finals in a season-best time of 4:06.90.

The team will be off from competition until January 19 when they host Westminster College and SUNY Geneseo at 1:00 p.m.
