Tartans Win Two at Senior Meet with Westminster and Geneseo

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team started the second half of the season with double dual victories against SUNY Geneseo and Westminster College, Saturday, January 19. The Tartans topped Geneseo 194-92 and Westminster 197-90 while bringing in eight first-place finishes.

The 200-yard medley relay opened the meet with a first-place finish in 1:35.85 behind sophomore Anton Razanav (San Diego, Calif./Westview), junior Austin Bohn (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona), freshman Carter Sharer (Oakton, Va./Oakton High) and junior Edward Sears (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River).

In the distance freestyles, freshman Christopher Wysocki (Rockville, Md./Winston Churchill) placed first in the 1,650-yard event in 16:37.39 with freshman Martin Smith (Washington, D.C./The Bolles School) finishing third in 17:05.98 while sophomore Andrew Yee (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) finished the 500-yard freestyle in first place in 4:45.70 and freshman Steven Geier (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) placed second in 4:45.95.

Yee also won the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best 1:44.85 with Geier placing third in 1:44.89. Sharer took second in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.30 while Sears was behind him in third in 21.42. Sears later won the 100-yard freestyle in 47.99 as the Tartans swept the event. Sophomore Jonathon Lin (Campbell, Calif./Westmont) was second in 48.51 and freshman Matthew Nielsen (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) was third in 49.25.

Freshman Adam Pinson (Gold River, Calif./Sacramento Day) won the 200-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 1:56.18 while sophomore David Campbell (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) was third in 1:58.14. Junior Terrence Wong (Solon, Ohio/Solon) touched first in the 100-yard butterfly in 51.54 just ahead of Sharer in 51.95.

Campbell led the charge in the 400-yard IM with a victory in 4:12.28. Nielsen was second in the event in 4:13.97.

Razanav placed second in the 100-yard bacstroke in 53.17 and in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:56.92.

The 100-yard breaststroke saw the Tartans two of the top three places with Bohn placing second in 1:00.15 and freshman Philip Farr (Campbell, Calif./Bellarmine College) placing third in 1:00.21. Farr later finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:12.42 with sophomore Cole Um (Federal Way, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) taking third in 2:12.67.

Freshman Christopher Ball (North Bethesda, Md./Richard Montgomery) took third on the 1-meter board with 135.95 points.

The Tartans will travel to Denison University on Saturday, January 26 for their next meet.
