Tartans Compete with National Power Denison

(GRANVILLE, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team competed with national power Denison University on Saturday, January 26 at Denison with the Big Red taking the win, 141-128.

In the mixed 1,650-yard freestyle, sophomore Andrew Yee (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) finished third in a time of 16:37.25. Yee later finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:46.34. Freshman Christopher Wysocki (Rockville, Md./Winston Churchill) was second in the mixed 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:00.23 with freshman Joseph Robinson (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville) finishing third in 10:24.76.

Freshman Steven Geier (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:45.84 while freshman Lucas Bruder (Wildwood, Mo./ Lafayette) was third in the 100-yard freestyle in 50.44 and junior Terrence Wong (Solon, Ohio/Solon) was second in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.12.

In the backstroke events, sophomore Michael Kellman (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 54.28 as Geier was second in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:59.73.

Sophomore Cole Um (Federal Way, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) touched second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.73 with sophomore Roy Sung (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) finishing the 200-yard breaststroke second in 2:14.49. Sung was also second in the 200-yard IM in 2:00.75 behind teammate Matthew Nielsen (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) who touched in 2:00.62.

Senior Brandon Yee (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:55.76 as Wong touched second in the 100-yard butterfly in 52.54.

The team will remain close to home next week as they swim at the University of Pittsburgh at 11:30 a.m.
