Tartans Tune Up for UAA Championships at Pittsburgh Meet

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team competed at the University of Pittsburgh against the Panthers and Clarion University on Saturday, January 30 in its last meet before the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.

The 200-yard medley relay team of junior Sivan Mehta (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale), sophomore Matthew Chu (Warren, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep), senior Joseph Robinson (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville) and freshman Jack Dangremond (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) touched third in 1:37.19.

Freshman Mitchell Riek (Sunland, Calif./Bishop Alemany) won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:38.22 while freshman Winston Chu (Warren, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) was first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.76. Riek later placed third in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:52.52, as Chu touched first in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:09.21.

In the sprint freestyles, Dangremond placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.64 and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in 47.72.

Freshman Jack Lance (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) placed third in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a season-best 9:59.16 while sophomore Chase Webb (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) recorded a career-best in the 200-yard backstroke finishing fourth in 2:01.12.

Mehta recorded a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly when touching in 52.45.

In diving, freshman Gabriel Bamforth (Cambridge, Mass./CRLS) placed third with 278.00 points in the 1-meter event and fourth with 241.70 points in the 3-meter event.

The Tartans will be off of meet action until the UAA Championships which begin Wednesday, February 17. The meet will be hosted by the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.
