Tartans Host Diving Invitational, Bamforth Sets Pool Record

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's and women's diving teams hosted a three team invitational on Friday, November 18 and Saturday, November 19 with Chatham University and Washington and Jefferson College.

Sophomore Gabe Bamforth (Cambridge, Mass./CRLS) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter board events with a pool record score on the 1-meter board. He also made his final qualifying mark for the 1-meter board and will now compete in both events at the 2016 NCAA Division III Region 4 Diving Championships on February 24-25. This weekend, after 11 dives Bamforth earned 470.80 points on the 1-meter board to surpass the previous school record of 443.35. He also earned 464.20 points on the 3-meter board.

Junior DeShawn Green (Newport News, Va./Warwick) placed second on the 3-meter board with a score of 306.95 and was third on the 1-meter board with 298.25 points. Sophomore Evan Hill (Knoxville, Tenn./Bearden) placed fifth on the 1-meter board with 260.35 points and dove on the 3-meter board as exhibition and scored 142.90 points after six dives.

For the women, freshman Megan Roche (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) earned 320.90 points to finish fourth on the 1-meter board with senior Mallory Evanoff (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) earning 318.15 points to finish fifth. Roche was even better on the 3-meter board where she scored 345.35 points to place second. Evanoff earned a fifth-place finish on the 3-meter board with a point tally of 318.55.

The Tartans will next compete at the Total Performance Invitational at Kenyon College on December 1-3.
