Tartans Cruise Past Washington and Lee at Home Dual Meet
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team cruised to a 191-71 victory against Washington and Lee University at home on Saturday, November 10 behind 13 event wins.
The Tartans won both the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay to bookend the meet.
Freshman Baris Denizli (East Brunswick, N.J. / East Brunswick) took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:31.26 while touching second in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:49.53 behind winner freshman Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) in 4:39.88. The Tartans swept both distance freestyle events.
Dauksher won three times for the day, also bringing in the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.28 and the 200-yard IM in 1:55.48.
Sophomore Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) was a double winner for the Tartans, as he touched first in the 100-yard backstroke in 50.35 and the 200-yard backstroke in 1:53.33.
Senior Winston Chu (Warren, N.J. / Saint Peter's Prep) earned victories in the breaststroke events, touching in 57.47 in the 100-yard event and 2:09.18 in the 200-yard event.
Other winners on the day for the Tartans were freshman Nathan Shao (Bellevue, Wash. / Bellevue) in the 50-yard freestyle, freshman Jonathan Hua (New Providence, N.J. / Delbarton) in the 100-yard freestyle, and senior Mitchell Riek (Sunland, Calif. / Bishop Alemany) in the 100-yard butterfly.
The Tartan divers also competed but not for points toward the meet. Senior Gabe Bamforth (Cambridge, Mass. / CRLS) registered 356.85 points on the 3-meter board and 357.30 points on the 1-meter board to lead the group.
The Tartans will next be in action on November 16-17 for the Tartan Diving Invitational before traveling to Gambier, Ohio, for the Kenyon College Total Performance Invitational on Thursday, November 29 through Saturday, December 1.
