Tartans Place Second at Kenyon; Set 400-yard Freestyle Relay Record

(GAMBIER, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team finished second at the Kenyon College Total Performance Invitational after three days of competition. During the event, the Tartans set six school records.

Freshman Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) continued a fantastic fall semester and weekend with a second-place showing in the 1,650-yard freestyle. His time of 15:38.78 provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA meet along with freshman Doug Johnson (Brea, Calif. / Brea Olinda) who finished fourth in 15:48.25 and sophomore Andrew Joyner (Holly Springs, N.C. / Tar Heel Springs Academy) in 10th in 16:11.28.

Sophomore Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) also had a great weekend finishing second for the second time when he touched the wall in another school record time of 1:47.64 in the 200-yard backstroke. His time also met the B cut standard and is his third cut time of the weekend. Freshman Sean Lannigan (Holden, Mass. / Wachusett Regional) was sixth in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:50.83 with Dauksher finishing eighth in 1:52.86.

Freshman Daniel Ng (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) finished eighth in the 100-yard freestyle in 45.98 to lead the Tartans who had four others place 11th through 20th in the event.

Senior Mitchell Riek (Sunland, Calif. / Bishop Alemany) led three Tartans in the top finals heat of the 200-yard butterfly. Riek was sixth in 1:53.42, junior Alessandro Rastelli (Norwell, Mass. / Norwell) was seventh in 1:53.77 and junior Rip Lyster (Naples, Fla. / Gulf Coast) finished ninth in 1:54.21.

Freshman Judson Kyle (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal School) earned a victory on the 3-meter board, closing the event with a career-best score of 527.90. Senior Gabe Bamforth (Cambridge, Mass. / CRLS) was second with a season-best 524.95 points with freshman James Kyle (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal School) placing fifth with 472.85 points.

The 400-yard freestyle relay completed the night with a second-place showing in 3:02.06. Britton, sophomore Max Gonzalez (Allison Park, Pa. / North Allegheny), Ng and junior Sam Hawke (Malvern, Pa. / Episcopal Academy) set a new school record that was last achieved in 2004 and provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet.
