Chu Honored as UAA Athlete of the Week

Jan. 8 – (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving senior Winston Chu (Warren, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Florida International University Spring Invite on Saturday, January 5.

After three days of double training in Miami, Florida, for the Tartans training trip, Chu helped lead the Tartans to first place at the Florida International University Sprint Invite that comprised teams from all three divisions. Chu was a double winner, finishing first in both the 50-yard breaststroke (27.20) and 100-yard breaststroke (59.56). Chu swam the 50-yard breaststroke four times in a four-round elimination format. He first finished second overall in 27.39 to advance to the second round of top eight finishers. He then advanced to the top four touching second in a time of 27.21 before winning that heat in 26.64 and then winning the final round in 27.20.

The Tartans return to campus for the start of classes on January 14 and will compete at Denison University on Saturday, January 19 at 1:00 p.m.
