Relay Sets School Record at UAA Championships

(CHICAGO, Ill.) - The 400-yard medley relay closed the first night of swimming competition at the 2019 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships with a school record performance for the Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team. The meet is being hosted by the University of Chicago and the Tartans sit third and eight points out of second place after a collection of strong performances.

The relay group of sophomore Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason), senior Winston Chu (Warren, N.J. / Saint Peter's Prep), junior Sam Hawke (Malvern, Pa. / Episcopal Academy), and freshman Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) finished the medley relay in a time of 3:19.14 to top the previous school record of 3:19.75 set earlier this season. The time placed them fourth in the event much like the 200-yard freestyle relay which kicked off the night with a fourth-place showing.

The depth of the Tartans showed throughout the evening as six swam in the finals of the 500-yard freestyle. Dauksher led the Tartans with a fourth-place showing in 4:30.92 with fellow freshman Baris Denizli (East Brunswick, N.J. / East Brunswick) just after him in 4:31.69.

Senior Jack Lance (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) had the top finish for the Tartans in the 200-yard IM when he touched the final wall in 1:52.52 for sixth place.

Britton collected championship points for the Tartans in the 50-yard freestyle with a fifth-place showing in 20.88.

The championships continue on Friday with seven swimming events and the 3-meter diving event.
