Tartans Break Records on Second Day of NCAA Championships

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team set two new school records and scored 13 points on the second day of the 2019 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships hosted at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Thursday, March 21.

Freshman Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) recorded the top finish for the Tartans so far at the championships when he touched 12th overall in the 400-yard IM. His time of 3:56.35 earned him All-America Honorable Mention honors while his time of 3:54.57 in the preliminaries was a season-best time.

The 400-yard medley relay team of sophomore Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason), freshman Colin Daniel (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield), junior Sam Hawke (Malvern, Pa. / Episcopal Academy) and sophomore Max Gonzalez (Allison Park, Pa. / North Allegheny) recorded a time of 3:19.40 in the preliminary round to earn a place in the evening consolation final. Their time of 3:18.89 in the finals set a new school record as they finished 13th for All-America Honorable Mention honors. During the swim, Britton broke his own school record in the 100-yard backstroke when he finished the first leg of the race in 48.47.

Senior Gabe Bamforth (Cambridge, Mass. / CRLS) just missed the chance to dive in the finals of the 1-meter diving event when he tied for 16th with 413.20 points Thursday afternoon.

Action resumes on Friday with preliminaries and Tartans swimming in the 100-yard backstroke and 800-yard freestyle relay.
