Men’s Swimming Honored by CSCAA for Academics

(NORFOLK, Va.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team was honored by the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) with a Team Scholar All-America award as 12 individuals were also named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans.

The Team Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The men's team earned a 3.37 GAP for the spring semester and also earned the award following the fall semester in which they recorded a 3.50 team GPA.

Individuals who achieved a 3.50 GPA or better for the year and either met a provisional time standard or competed at the NCAA Championships were honored.

The men's team had eight members compete at the NCAA Championships with all eight meeting the academic standard for Scholar All-America recognition. Those eight athletes also helped the Tartans score enough points to finish 16th in the nation, its best finish since 2010.

Earning Scholar All-America honors are senior Gabe Bamforth (Cambridge, Mass./CRLS), junior Sam Hawke (Malvern, Pa./Episcopal Academy), sophomores Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) and Max Gonzalez (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny), and freshmen Judson Kyle (Austin, Texas/St. Stephen's Episcopal School), Colin Daniel (Westfield, N.J./Westfield), Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge), and Daniel Ng (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson).

Meeting the academic standard and surpassing a qualifying standard to earn Scholar All-America Honorable Mention were seniors Winston Chu (Warren, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) and Jack Lance (Lititz, Pa./Warwick), sophomore Andrew Joyner (Holly Springs, N.C./Tar Heel Springs Academy), and freshman James Kyle (Austin, Texas/St. Stephen's Episcopal School).
