200 Free Relay Sets Pool Record in Dual Meet Win

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team set the pool record in the 200-yard freestyle relay and four divers qualified for the NCAA Regional Meet in a home 178-79 win against Washington and Lee University on Saturday, November 16.

The 200-yard freestyle relay of freshman Erik Feldmann (Yakima, Wash. / West Valley), sophomore Jonathan Hua (New Providence, N.J. / Delbarton), freshman Matthew Nagler (West Chicago, Ill. / St. Charles East), and junior Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) closed the meet with a time of 1:23.83 to set a new pool record.

Freshman John McNab (Westport, Conn. / Staples) was a winner in the 1,000-yard freestyle for the third time this season when he touched in 9:33.14. He also had a season-best time in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:40.06 for another victory.

Britton continued his fast start to the season with another season-best time in the 100-yard backstroke in 49.81 and in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:51.95.

Freshman Seaver Dahlgren (Mill Valley, Calif. / Branson) had a season-best time in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing first in 58.97, before doing the same in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:10.27

Freshman Aleksander Tarczynski (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) was first in the 200-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 1:53.06 while Nagler took first in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle in season-best times of 21.07 and 46.73.

Freshman Alex Chiu (Sewell, N.J. / Washington Township) won the 100-yard butterfly in 51.42.

Four divers earned their place at the NCAA Regional Meet by earning qualifying scores for the second time this season. Sophomore Judson Kyle (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal School) registered the high score on the 1-meter board with 329.70 points. Freshman Matthew Wagner (Mason, Ohio / Wiliam Mason) scored 321.60, sophomore James Kyle (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal School) 303.15, and freshman Oskar Eisgruber () had 302.03 points. On the 3-meter board, James Kyle led with 349.73 points. Judson Kyle had 322.73 points, Wagner 312.33, and Eisgruber 258.60 points.

The Tartans will next compete at the West Virginia University Invitational on November 21-23. The divers will host an invitational on Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23.
