200-yard Freestyle Relay Sets New School Record at WVU Invitational

(MORGANTOWN, W.Va.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming team began the three-day competition at the West Virginia University Invitational against four Division I teams and another Division III team on Thursday, November 21. The 200-yard freestyle relay opened the evening session with a school record.

Freshman John McNab (Westport, Conn. / Staples) placed seventh in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:34.08. He touched fifth overall in the preliminaries with a season-best time of 4:31.96.

Freshman Aleksander Tarczynski (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) swam in the B final of the 200-yard IM finishing 10th in 1:52.83. He finished the preliminaries in a season-best time of 1:52.32. Senior Sam Hawke (Malvern, Pa. / Episcopal Academy) was also in the B final of the 200-yard IM finishing 15th in 1:54.34. His time of 1:53.90 in the preliminaries was a season-best.

Both junior Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) and freshman Matthew Nagler (West Chicago, Ill. / St. Charles East) swam in the B final of the 50-yard freestyle. Britton finished 14th in a season-best time of 20.89 while Nagler was 16th in 21.11. Nagler had a season-best time in the preliminaries of 20.94.

The 200-yard freestyle relay of sophomore Jonathan Hua (New Providence, N.J. / Delbarton), Nagler, freshman Erik Feldmann (Yakima, Wash. / West Valley), and Britton touched fifth in a school-record time of 1:22.39.

The 400-yard medley relay of Britton, freshman Seaver Dahlgren (Mill Valley, Calif. / Branson), freshman Alex Chiu (Sewell, N.J. / Washington Township), and Feldmann touched fifth in 3:20.08 to close the night.

Friday's events include the 100-yard butterfly, 400-yard IM, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard medley relay, and the 800-yard freestyle relay.
