Another Relay Record Set for Tartans at West Virginia Invitational

(MORGANTOWN, W.Va.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming team continued action Friday at the West Virginia University Invitational. The highlight of the night was the 200-yard medley relay setting a new school record.

The 200-yard medley relay tied for sixth when junior Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason), sophomore Colin Daniel (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield), junior Max Gonzalez (Allison Park, Pa. / North Allegheny), and freshman Matthew Nagler (West Chicago, Ill. / St. Charles East) touched the final wall in a school record time of 1:30.22.

A pair of freshman collected season-best times in the 200-yard freestyle during the top finals flight Friday night. Yousef Hassen (Redlands, Calif. / Redlands) was sixth in 1:41.21 while Erik Feldmann (Yakima, Wash. / West Valley) was seventh in 1:41.53.

Britton knocked more time of his season-best in the 100-yard backstroke by finishing in 49.31 to place sixth.

Freshman Aleksander Tarczynski (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) finished the 400-yard IM in eighth place in a time of 4:02.76. He reached the top finals flight by finishing in a season-best time of 4:01.25 in the preliminaries. Freshman John McNab (Westport, Conn. / Staples) touched second in the B Final in a season-best time of 4:00.06.

Daniel picked up an 11th-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke in a season-best time of 56.59 while sophomore Jasper Lessiohadi (Lawrenceville, N.J. / George School) just behind him in 57.36.

Freshman Sean Ream (Canton, Ohio / Jackson) had the highest Tartan finish in the 100-yard butterfly when he touched 18th in a season-best time of 49.83.

The 800-yard freestyle relay of McNab, Feldmann, Gonzalez, and sophomore Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) closed the night with a fourth-place showing in 6:44.64.

The final day of competition kicks off Saturday with preliminaries of the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, and 200-yard butterfly. The 1,650-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relay will also take place Saturday evening.
