Men’s Swimming Honored by CSCAA for Academics

(NORFOLK, Va.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team was honored by the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) with a Team Scholar All-America award as 15 individuals were also named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans.

The Team Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The men's team earned a 3.70 GPA for the spring semester and also earned the award following the fall semester in which they recorded a 3.43 team GPA.

Individuals who achieved a 3.50 GPA or better for the year and either met a provisional time standard or competed at the NCAA Championships were honored.

The men's team had 13 members invited to compete at the 2020 NCAA Championships with 11 meeting the academic standard for Scholar All-America recognition.

Earning Scholar All-America honors are senior Sam Hawke (Malvern, Pa./Episcopal Academy), juniors Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) and Max Gonzalez (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny), sophomores Colin Daniel (Westfield, N.J./Westfield), Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge), James Kyle (Austin, Texas/St. Stephen's Episcopal School), Judson Kyle (Austin, Texas/St. Stephen's Episcopal School), and Sean Ream (Canton, Ohio/Jackson), and freshmen John McNab (Westport, Conn./Staples), Matthew Nagler (West Chicago, Ill./St. Charles East) and Aleksander Tarczynski (Springfield, Va./West Springfield).

Hawke, Britton, Gonzalez, Daniel, Dauksher, and Judson Kyle all earn the honor for the second consecutive year.

An additional five athletes met a provisional time with four of them meeting the academic standard for Scholar All-America Honorable Mention. It is sophomore Andrew Joyner's (Holly Springs, N.C./Tar Heel Springs Academy) second award while freshmen Alex Chiu (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township), Oskar Eisgruber (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard), and Matthew Wagner (Mason, Ohio/William Mason) earn the award for the first time.
