Tartans Race to Second at Kenyon Relays

(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team took to the water for another relay meet, this time at Kenyon College on Saturday, October 16 against the host Lords, Ohio Northern University, Ohio Wesleyan University and Wittenberg University. The Tartans finished second to Kenyon with 80 points to the Lords 112.

The 200-yard medley relay placed second behind Kenyon with a time of 1:33.00 to kick off the meet. Senior Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason), freshman Christian Lanuza (Greenwich, Conn. / Greenwich), senior Sean Ream (Canton, Ohio / Jackson) and junior Erik Feldmann (Yakima, Wash. / West Valley) took two seconds off the top finish from the last relay meet at the University of Pittsburgh to open the season.

The 200-yard backstroke relay also placed third with freshman Kevin Kyi (Bellevue, Wash. / Newport), senior Jonathan Hua (New Providence, N.J. / Delbarton), junior Oliver Lance (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) and Britton completing the race in 1:34.21.

The 200-yard breaststroke relay also finished third with Lanuza, freshman Kevin Wu (Mason, Ohio / William Mason), sophomore Santiago Gomez (Doral, Fla. / Doral Academy) and senior Colin Daniel (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield) touching in 1:48.10.

Another second-place finish for the Tartans came in the 200-yard butterfly relay with Feldmann, Ream, junior Aleksander Tarczynski (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) and Britton putting in a time of 1:29.98, just .35 seconds off from Kenyon who set a new meet record.

Lanuza was on another top finish for the Tartans as he led off the 3x500-yard freestyle relay that finished third overall in 14:31.31. Lanuza was joined by juinor John McNab (Westport, Conn. / Staples) and senior Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge).

The lone relay the Tartans won at the University of Pittsburgh two weeks ago was the 200-yard freestyle relay. This meet, the Tartans finished second to Kenyon but improved on the time as junior Yousef Hassen (Redlands, Calif. / Redlands), Feldmann, Wu and Britton touched in 1:23.92, .17 seconds faster for the top time of the season.

The divers also competed on Saturday with junior Matthew Wagner (Mason, Ohio / Wiliam Mason) finishing third on the 1-meter board wih 272.40 points after six dives and then third on the same board with 443.25 points after 11 dives.

The Tartans will return to action on Saturday, October 30 in a dual meet at Case Western Reserve University.
