Tartans Sit Second After Day 1 of Total Performance Invitational

(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming team opened competition at the Kenyon College Total Performance Invitational on Thursday, November 18. The Tartans are competing against Division II West Chester University along with Division III schools, Hope College, John Carroll University and St. Norbert College.

The Tartans 200-yard freestyle relay placed second to start the meet behind a time of 1:21.56 from junior Yousef Hassen (Redlands, Calif. / Redlands), junior Erik Feldmann (Yakima, Wash. / West Valley), junior Matthew Nagler (West Chicago, Ill. / St. Charles East) and senior Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason).

Senior Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) swam in the 500-yard freestyle A-Final and finished fifth overall in a season-best time of 4:33.42. Freshman Adel Heddadji (San Ramon, Calif. / Dougherty Valley) touched first in the B-Final in a season-best time of 4:39.29.

Sophomore Adi Kambhampaty (Arlington, Va. / Washington-Liberty) and freshman Sammy Telanoff (Santa Monica, Calif. / Santa Monica) competed in the A-Final of the 200-yard IM. Kambhampaty finished seventh in 1:53.87 while Telanoff was eighth in 1:55.79. Their respetive prelimaries times of 1:52.63 and 1:53.56 were season bests.

Britton and Hassen raced in the 50-yard freestyle A-Final with season-best times of 20.75 and 20.82 to finish sixth and seventh. Feldmann ended up with the top 50-yard freestyle time of the day for the Tartans when he touched in 20.68 to win the B-Final. His time is .05 seconds off the school record set by Britton in 2020.

The 400-yard medley relay of Britton, senior Colin Daniel (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield), senior Sean Ream (Canton, Ohio / Jackson) and Feldmann closed the meet with a fourth-place showing in 3:19.99.

Competition will resume at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning with another preliminaries session.
