Britton is UAA Champion Again

(ATLANTA, Ga.) – Senior Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) is a University Athletic Association (UAA) Champion once again and the Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team currently sits fifth at the UAA Championships after Friday's competition with one more day to go.

Britton's championship performance came mid-way through the meet when he touched first in 48.20 in the 100-yard backstroke for his second UAA title in the event.

The 200-yard medley relay had an evening to remember with a school-record time of 1:29.29, placing second behind the swims from freshman Adel Heddadji (San Ramon, Calif. / Dougherty Valley), senior Colin Daniel (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield), Britton, and junior Erik Feldmann (Yakima, Wash. / West Valley). The time also provisionally qualifies the relay for the NCAA Championships.

Senior Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) swam the 400-yard IM in 3:57.66 to place ninth while freshman Sammy Telanoff (Santa Monica, Calif. / Santa Monica) finished the race in 3:59.52 to place 17th. Both times meet the qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships.

Senior Sean Ream placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly in 49.13 to meet an NCAA qualifying standard while junior Aleksander Tarczynski (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) took 10th in the same event with a personal-best time of 49.76.

Freshman Christian Lanuza (Greenwich, Conn. / Greenwich) was the top Tartan in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 14th-place finish in 57.16.

The 800-yard freestyle relay of junior John McNab (Westport, Conn. / Staples), Tarczynski, senior Daniel Ng (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson), and Dauksher finished the night with a fifth-place finish in an NCAA qualifying time of 6:46.03.

The final day of competition kicks off at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday with finals set for 5:30 p.m. at Emory University.
