Four School Records Set on Day 2 of NCAA Championships

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team set four school records and earned All-America finishes on the second night of the 2022 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships hosted at the IUPUI IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Thursday, March 17.

Senior Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) was part of all four school records and earned three All-America Honorable Mention accolades for the day as part of two relays and an individual event. Britton anchored the 200-yard freestyle relay that set a new record in the preliminaries only to top it in the finals with a time of 1:20.66. That time placed the team of junior Yousef Hassen (Redlands, Calif. / Redlands), junior Erik Feldmann (Yakima, Wash. / West Valley), junior Matthew Nagler (West Chicago, Ill. / St. Charles East), and Britton 12th overall.

Britton later swam in the finals of the 100-yard butterfly by qualifying 14th during the preliminaries. In the finals, the senior closed out the race in a time of 47.88 to top his own school record and become the fifth Tartan to earn a top 16 finish in the event and first since 2007.

Britton would later take to the pool in the 400-yard medley relay to close the evening session with a lead-off leg of the relay that placed 11th with a school-record time of 3:16.93. Joining Britton with the All-America Honorable Mention award is senior Colin Daniel (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield), senior Sean Ream (Canton, Ohio / Jackson), and Feldmann. In the preliminaries, Britton set a new 100-yard backstroke record when he led off the relay with a 47.77 which tops his own record of 48.19 set in 2019.

Senior Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) swam the daunting 400-yard IM and pushed from eighth in the consolations heat to second during the last stroke turn with a 52.33 100-yard freestyle to place 10th overall to earn the second All-America Honorable Mention award in the event for his career.

Ream also competed individually on the day in the 100-yard butterfly, placing 34th in 49.14.

Friday's events include the 200-yard butterfly (Ream), 100-yard backstroke (Britton and Dauksher), 100-yard breaststroke (Daniel), the 800-yard freestyle relay, and 1-meter diving (James Kyle).
