Tartans Start Dual Play With 9-0 Blanking of Robert Morris

(PITTSBUGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team opened its dual match play with a 9-0 victory over Division I Robert Morris University Saturday, October 6.  

The Tartan sophomore duo of sophomore Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood)  and  Bryce Beisswanger (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint School) started the scoring for the Tartans will at No. 3 doubles 8-3.   Senior Duke Miller (Poway, Calif./Poway) and sophomore Will Duncan (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) won at No. 1 doubles by the score of 8-6 while sophomore Thomas Cooper (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) teamed with freshman Kosuke Hasegawa (Sunnyvale, Calif./Fremont) at No. 2 doubles and picked up a 9-8 victory.

Heaney-Secord and Miller were the first finished in singles play to seal the victory for the Tartans.  Heaney-Secord won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 and Miller won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2.

Also winning in singles action was Hasegawa at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0, senior Jooho Yu (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) at No. 4 singles, 7-6, 2-6, 10-4, Duncan at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-1 and senior Harsha Rao (Severn, Md./Old Mill) at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

The Tartans will be back in action Sunday, October 7 when they entertain Amherst at 1:00 p.m.
