Hasegawa Named UAA Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University freshman Kosuke Hasegawa (Sunnyvale, Calif./Fremont) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for his performance over the weekend in helping the Tartans to a 2-0 dual record to start the season. The Tartan wins were over Division I Robert Morris and Amherst.

Hasegawa won the deciding fifth point against Amherst after trailing 4-1 in his second set. The freshman won 7-5, 7-5 at fifth singles after rain forced the match inside with him leading 5-4 in the second set. The day prior, Hasegawa teamed with sophomore Thomas Cooper (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) at No. 2 doubles against Robert Morris and won 9-8 before winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Carnegie Mellon will be idle until February when the team hosts Division II West Virginia Wesleyan College at an indoor venue still to be determined on Saturday, February 2.
