Tartans Win 9-0 to Start Spring Semester Action

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team defeated Division II West Virginia Wesleyan College 9-0 to start the second semester on Saturday, February 2. Sophomore Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) led the way with wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles.

Heaney-Secord paired with sophomore Thomas Cooper (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) to win 9-8 (9-5) to earn the team's third point of the day. Seniors Duke Miller (Poway, Calif./Poway) and Jooho Yu (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) won at No. 2 doubles 8-4 after sophomore Byrce Beisswanger (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint School) and freshman Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.

Miller finished his singles match first, winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. He was followed by a victory by freshman Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Heaney-Secord then won at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-3.

Rounding out the Tartans sweep was Alla at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 7-5, Yu at No. 5 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win and senior Harsha Rao (Severn, Md./Old Mill) at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0.

The Tartans will next play Bucknell University on Friday, February 8 at 6:00 p.m.
