#18 Tartans Move to 5-0 with 6-3 Win at Haverford

(HAVERFORD, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team defeated Haverford College on the road Saturday afternoon 6-3 to remain undefeated on the season at 5-0. The team rallied after doubles play to win all six singles matches.

After falling behind 3-0 in doubles play, freshman Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) won at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-1 as senior Duke Miller (Poway, Calif./Poway) defeated Luis Acaba in the third set after Acaba was forced to retire. Freshman Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) then won at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-2, to tie the match at 3-3.

Freshman Kosuke Hasegawa (Sunnyvale, Calif./Fremont) gave the Tartans the lead winning his singles match 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 5 slot before senior Jooho Yu (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) sealed the win with a victory at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-3.

Sophomore Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) played No. 1 singles and won both his sets after tiebreakers, 7-6(7-4) and 7-6(7-1).

The Tartans will play again on Sunday, February 17 at Stevens Tech.
