Tartans Defeat Stevens Tech 7-2

(ALLENTOWN, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team kept its winning ways going with a 7-2 victory over Stevens Institute of Technology on Sunday, February 17 at a neutral site in Allentown, Pa. The #18 Tartans are now 6-0 on the year.

Sophomore Bryce Beisswanger (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint School) and freshman Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) won the first point of the day with an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles. After Stevens Tech tied the match at 1-1 with a win at No. 1 singles, sophomores Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) and Thomas Cooper (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) paired to win at No. 2 doubles in a tiebreaker 9-8 (8-5).

Senior Harsha Rao (Severn, Md./Old Mill) gave the Tartans a 3-1 advantage with his win at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0, as Alla followed with a win at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-4.

Senior Duke Miller (Poway, Calif./Poway) sealed the win at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Ben Foran. Also winning for the Tartans was freshman Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) at No. 4 singles, 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 and freshman Kosuke Hasegawa (Sunnyvale, Calif./Fremont) at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.

The Tartans will be off until their spring break trip to Claremont, California, where they will face Sewanee at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 10.
