#18 Tartans Tested by #5 Bowdoin in First Loss

(CLAREMONT, Calif.) - The #18 Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team was challenged Monday, March 11 by #5 Bowdoin College as the Tartans came up short in singles play, falling 6-3. The Tartans are now 7-1 on the year as Bowdoin improves to 2-0.

Senior Duke Miller (Poway, Calif./Poway) and sophomore Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) opened the match with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles before sophmore Bryce Beisswanger (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint School) and freshman Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) fell 8-3 at No. 3 doubles. The freshmen pair of Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) and Kosuke Hasegawa (Sunnyvale, Calif./Fremont) then gave the Tartans a 2-1 advantage with a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Polar Bears took a 3-2 lead after winning at No. 6 and No. 4 singles before Miller tied the score at three all wth a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.

The Polar Bears didn't take the first win of the season against the Tartans easily as they needed three sets in the remaining matches to win.

The Tartans will next face #8 Trinity (Texas) on Tuesday, March 12 at 12:30 p.m. PT.
