#18 Tartans Top Division I Duquesne 6-3

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The 18th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team hosted Division I Duquesne University on Friday, April 5 and defeated the Duke 6-3.  The win improves the Tartans record to 10-4 while the Dukes are now 11-5.

Carnegie Mellon started the match sweeping doubles play to take a 3-0 lead. After claiming the first two points at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, the Tartan tandem of sophomore Thomas Cooper (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) and senior Jooho Yu (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) trailed 5-4 at No. 3 doubles before winning four straight games to claim the  8-5 victory.

Duquesne cut the lead to 3-2 after winning at No. 1 and No. 5 singles. Yu then won at No. 6 singles over Ben Klaas 6-2, 6-4, to give Carnegie Mellon a 4-2 edge before freshman Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) sealed the victory for the Tartans.  Alla won 6-1, 7-6 (7) at No. 3 single over Corey Robinson.    

The Tartans final point came when freshman Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) defeated Max Rubin 6-2, 2-6, 7-9 (2), at No. 4.

The Tartans will host Grove City at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9.
