#18 Tartans Take Down Grove City 9-0

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The 18th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team defeated Grove City College 9-0 in non-conference regional action on Tuesday, April 9 at home in Pittsburgh. The Tartans advance to 11-4 on the season while the Wolverines fall to 5-4.

The match started with singles play as rain was a threat in the area. Freshman Kosuke Hasegawa (Sunnyvale, Calif./Fremont) earned the Tartans' first point with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles over Josh Sauer before freshman Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) equaled his teammates score at No. 3 singles over Anthony Rosselli to give the home team a 2-0 lead.

The third Tartan freshman in the lineup, Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) then won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles over Caleb Fuller just before freshman Paul Okuda (Kaneohe, Hawaii/Punahou) won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 singles over Colby Beighey.

Sophomore Bryce Beisswanger (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint School) secured the team win with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles over Jonathan Graber before sophomore Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles over Peter Riley.

In doubles action, the No. 3 pair of senior Harsha Rao (Severn, Md./Old Mill) and Okuda defeated Graber and Sauer 8-0 just before senior Duke Miller (Poway, Calif./Poway) paired with Heaney-Secord at No. 1 doubles for an 8-0 win. The final point came by way of No. 2 doubles as senior Jooho Yu (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and sophomore Thomas Cooper (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) won 8-4.

The Tartans will next face Kalamazoo College on Saturday, April 13 at 3:00 p.m. before visiting #2 Kenyon College at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 14.
