Heaney-Secord Honored by UAA

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University senior Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for his performance during the Tartans spring break west coast trip. The senior posted a 4-1 showing in both singles and doubles play during the trip.

One of Heaney-Secord's No. 2 singles' wins (6-3, 3-6, 7-5) was the match clincher against then No. 1 Trinity University who was undefeated and won the ITA National Team Indoor Championship a few weeks prior. While pairing with senior Will Duncan at No. 1 doubles, Heaney-Secord topped the fall national champion doubles pair from Trinity, 8-2, and the fall national doubles runner-up from Pomona-Pitzer, 9-8 (7-4).

As a team, the Tartans finished the week with a 3-2 record and remain ranked 11th in the nation.  They will next be in action on Saturday, March 28 in Fredericksburg, Virginia, against Washington and Lee University at 9:00 a.m.
