Tartans Sweep Through Grove City, 9-0

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team, ranked 11th in the nation, swept through play with Grove City College on Monday, March 23 by a 9-0 score. The Tartans are now 9-6 on the year while the Wolverines dropped to 0-4.

Senior Bryce Beisswanger (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint School) and junior Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) paired at first doubles to defeat Peter Riley and Colby Beighey by an 8-0 score while senior Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) and freshman Jeffrey Chen (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) won 8-0 at second doubles. Freshmen Matt Seifert (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) and Andrew Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./Saint Francis) closed out doubles competition with an 8-1 victory at third doubles.

In singles, freshman Tommy Cheng (Cupertino, Calif./Cupertino) won 6-2, 6-3 in the fourth slot while Beisswanger won 6-0, 6-3 in the sixth spot.

Junior Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) won 6-0, 6-0 against Beighey at second singles as sophomore Kunal Wadwani (Saratoga, Calif./Ballarmine College Prep) defeated Dan Schafhauser 6-2, 6-1 at third singles and Kumar topped Matt Lynch 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles.

Heaney-Secord played first singles for the day, defeating Riley, 6-1, 7-6(7-5).

The Tartans will next face No. 36 Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, on Saturday, March 28 at 9:00 a.m.
