No. 10 Men's Tennis Tops No. 18 Mary Washington

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team, ranked 10th nationally, hosted No. 18 University of Mary Washington on Saturday, April 11 and topped the Eagles 6-3.  The win improves the Tartans overall record to 13-7 while Carnegie Mellon snaps Mary Washington's 11-match win streak, as the Eagles move to 18-4.

Carnegie Mellon opened the match sweeping doubles play.  The tandem of sophomore Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and freshman Edward Ang (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) won at No. 3 doubles to give the Tartans their first point with an 8-4 victory.  Shortly after No. 3 doubles finished, the duo of senior Bryce Beisswanger (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint School) and junior Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.  The sweep was completed when the Tartans No.1 doubles team of seniors Will Duncan (Newbury Park, Calif.) and Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) won 9-7.

The Tartans sealed the victory when they claimed the first two points in singles play.  Heaney-Secord won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 2 while sophomore Kunal Wadwani (Saratoga, Calif./Ballarmine College Prep) won by the identical score at No. 5 singles.  Carnegie Mellon picked up its sixth point at No. 1 singles as junior Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) won 6-4, 6-4.

Carnegie Mellon will be back on the courts Sunday, April 12 when they entertain No. 11 Johns Hopkins University at 11:00 a.m.
