Duncan and Alla Named Capital One Academic All-District

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Two Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis players, senior Will Duncan (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) and junior Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School), were named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team.  CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition with the official sponsor of Capital One.

Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 which is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania.
    
Duncan is a computational and applied mathematics major with a minor in computational biology with a 3.89 GPA.  He owns a 15-8 record in doubles play this season, including a 10-8 mark at No.1 doubles with fellow senior teammate Christian Heaney-Secord, and sports a 14-13 singles record.  For his career, Duncan has a singles record of 50-28 and doubles mark of 58-25.  He has been name All-University Athletic Association (UAA) three times, once in singles and twice in doubles, and was a doubles All-American in 2012.

Duncan is a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Council, Phi Kappa Phi honor society and is a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete.  During the summer of 2014 he conducted research at Ohio State University and University of Notre Dame for the Mathematical Biosciences Institute (MBI) Undergraduate Research Program.  

Alla's making his second straight appearance on the All-District team.  The junior carries a 3.83 GPA and is a civil and environmental engineering major with a minor in business administration.  This season, Alla has a singles record of 23-11 and was the runner-up at the ITA Southwest Regional this past fall.  

For his career, Alla has amassed a singles record of 64-25 and was the 2013 USTA/ITA National Small College Singles Champion earning All-America honors in the fall before advancing to the round of 16 at the 2014 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships, earning All-America honors for the spring.  Following the 2012-13 season, Alla was named the ITA Atlantic South Rookie of the Year.  He is a two-time ITA Scholar Athlete and was named second team Capital One Academic All-America last season.

Alla is a member of the Mayur South Asian Student Alliance, the American Society of Civil Engineers and has volunteered at Krushi Orphonage teaching kids tennis while engaging with children during festivals.  He is also the vice president of Chi Epsilon, an honor society for civil engineers (ASCE).

Duncan and Alla will continue their season at the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championship on May 21-23.  Duncan will team with Heaney-Secord in doubles while Alla will compete in the singles field.

Both Duncan and Alla will now move on to the national ballot for Capital One Academic All-America consideration.
