Men’s Tennis Selected to Host 2016 NCAA Opening Rounds

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team will compete for the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship and have been selected to host the first, second and third rounds. The Tartans will host action on Thursday, May 12 through Saturday, May 14 with five teams traveling to Pittsburgh.

Carnegie Mellon enters the championship ranked fifth in the nation, earning its fifth NCAA tournament bid under head coach Andrew Girard and first since 2014.

Yeshiva University (13-3) and Goucher College (19-4) will open the tournament on Thursday with the winner advancing to face the Tartans (16-6) on Friday. Johns Hopkins University (16-5) and Gwynedd Mercy University (11-3) will also compete on Thursday with the winner facing the University of Mary Washington (18-9) on Friday. The two Friday winners will play on Saturday for the chance to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

All match times are still to be determined and will be announced as soon as information is available.

The Tartans' home tennis court is located in the center of campus with six playing courts and a video scoreboard. Should play get moved indoors, the tournament will be played at The Club Sport and Health in Monroeville, Pennsylvania.
