ITA Honors Men’s Tennis as All-Academic Team; Seven Named Scholar Athletes

(TEMPE, Ariz.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team was honored for the seventh straight season and 14th time in the last 15 years by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an ITA All-Academic Team. In addition, seven players were named ITA Scholar Athletes.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above during the last academic year and the men's team achieved a cumulative average of 3.48 for the year.

In addition to the team honor, seniors Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) and Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School), juniors Kiril Kirkov (Tampa, Fla./C. Leon King) and Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central), and sophomores Edward Ang (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista), Tommy Cheng (Cupertino, Calif./Cupertino) and Andrew Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./Saint Francis).

In order to be eligible to be an ITA Scholar Athlete, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a GPA of at least 3.50 and been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
