Zheng and Arora Lead Tartans with Four Wins Each at CMU Invitational

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team began the 2015-16 campaign with a home invitational against Division I Duquesne University on Saturday, September 10.

Senior Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) kicked off his final season as a Tartan with a 4-0 record, pairing with sophomore Vayum Arora (Fremont, Calif./Mission San Jose) to defeat junior Tim Kane and junior Adam Blasinsky, 6-4, while he teamed up with freshman Michael Rozenvasser (Haworth, N.J./Northern Valley Regional) to win 6-2 against freshman Jared Isaacs and sophomore Chris Corrao. In singles play, Zheng topped Kane, 8-3, and junior Dimitris Stavropoulos, 9-7.

Arora also finished the day with a 4-0 showing with singles victories against junior Andrew Ong (9-7) and sophomore Drew Akins (9-8) while pairing with Zheng and freshman Mark Prettyman (Fairfax, Va./Thomas Jefferson) to top Stavropoulos and sophomore Dane Bendel, 6-3.

Four other doubles victories happened for the Tartans on the day. Sophomore Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill./Boca Prep International School) and freshman Hudson Graf (Irvine, Calif./University) topped Ong and Bendel, 6-4, while sophomore Julian Sweeney (Austin, Texas/Westlake) paired with Prettyman for a 6-3 win and Graf for a 6-4 win. Rozenvasser and fellow freshman Nicholas Calzolano (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) also won 6-4.

In other singles action, Rozenvasser defeated Corrao, 8-2, Levine won 8-3 against Stavropoulos and 9-7 against Blasinksy, senior Kunal Wadwani (Saratoga, Calif./Ballarmine College Prep) topped Bendel, 8-1, and Sweeney picked up a 6-1 win against freshman Tyler Smith.
