Rozenvasser Wins USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Singles Championship

(FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) – Freshman Michael Rozenvasser (Haworth, N.J./Northern Valley Regional) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team was victorious in the championship singles final at the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional on Monday, October 3, becoming the first Tartan freshman to win the title in program history.

Playing in his first major tournament, Rozenvasser found his way to the singles championship final with a 6-2, 6-2 win against top seed and former regional winner Michael Buxbaum of Johns Hopkins University in the semifinals. In the finals, Rozenvasser defeated Courtney Murphy of Wilkes University, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, to earn the program's fifth regional singles title.

The Tartans number one doubles pair of sophomores Vayum Arora (Fremont, Calif./Mission San Jose) and Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill./Boca Prep International School) finished as regional finalists after falling to four-time USTA/ITA Southeast Regional doubles champions, Michael Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh of Johns Hopkins University, 6-4, 6-3. The CMU duo advanced to the finals with an 8-5 win against fourth-seeded Mark Fallati and Joshua Powell of Swarthmore College.

Buxbaum and Walsh advanced to the finals after topping CMU senior Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and Rozenvasser in the other semifinal, 8-1.

The Tartans will be back in dual action on Sunday, October 9 at home against Oberlin College and Christopher Newport University.
