#7 Tartans Sweep John Carroll

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team hosted John Carroll University for its first Division III match of the spring season after facing five opponents from Division I or II schools. The Tartans won the match 9-0 to move to 5-4 on the season.

The Tartans swept through doubles action with the number one pair of sophomores Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill./Boca Prep International School) and Vayum Arora (Fremont, Calif./Mission San Jose) winning 8-5. The pair, ranked 11th in the nation, played together for the just the second time this spring. Senior Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and junior Jeffrey Chen (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) picked up an 8-3 win at number two doubles while freshman Nicholas Calzolano (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and sophomore Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) won 8-4 at number three doubles.

Levine earned his second win of the day when he won in three sets at number one singles, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0. Zheng played second singles and won, 6-3, 6-1, while Downing won his third singles match by a 6-1, 6-2 score.

Freshman Mark Prettyman (Fairfax, Va./Thomas Jefferson) won 6-4, 6-3 at number four singles, Arora won 6-2, 6-4 at number five singles and senior Kunal Wadwani (Saratoga, Calif./Ballarmine College Prep) was victorious at number six singles, 6-2, 6-0.

The Tartans will next travel to Cleveland, Ohio, to face eighth-ranked Case Western Reserve University in the opening round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Friday, February 24. The match is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. at the Cleveland Racquet Club.
