Zheng Honored as UAA Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis senior Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week following his play for the seventh-ranked Tartans who won two matches over the weekend.
Zheng earned two of Carnegie Mellon's five points in a heated contest with #20 Johns Hopkins University on Sunday, April 9. He paired with freshman Michael Rozenvasser to win 8-5 at third doubles which proved to be pivotal as the Tartans won 5-4. With just his match to be completed, Zheng won 6-3 in his third set to earn a 6-7 (0-7), 7-5, 6-3 win at fourth singles to clinch the match. The Tartans also won 5-4 on Saturday against #16 Mary Washington but Zheng didn't play singles due to sickness. He and freshman Mark Prettyman fell 8-6 at third doubles.
The Tartans are off until the UAA Championship tournament in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The tournament begins Friday, March 21 with the draw still to be determined.
