ITA Honors Men’s Tennis as All-Academic Team; Six Named Scholar Athletes

The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team was honored for the ninth straight season and 16th time in the last 17 years by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an ITA All-Academic Team. In addition, six players were named ITA Scholar Athletes.

Junior Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill. / Boca Prep International School) and junior Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team closed their run at the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships in the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket after an epic battle with a pair from University Athletic Association (UAA) rival Emory University. By advancing to the quarterfinals with their first round win on Thursday, the pair earned All-America recognition.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis doubles pair of juniors Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) and Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill. / Boca Prep International Schoo) advanced to the quarterfinals at the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships Thursday. The individual singles and doubles tournament is being played at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California.

Junior Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill. / Boca Prep International School) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men’s Tennis Player of the Year by the UAA coaches when the 2018 UAA Men’s Tennis All-Association Team was announced. The Carnegie Mellon University first singles and doubles player is the first player in school history to earn the top award.

Carnegie Mellon University will have four tennis players at the 2018 NCAA Division III Singles and Doubles Tennis Championships after senior Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) and sophomore Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) have been selected from the women's team and juniors Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill./Boca Prep International School) and Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) were selected on the men's side. The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship will begin on May 24 at Claremont Mudd Scripps in Claremont, California.
