Tartans Top Grove City, 9-0, on the Road

(GROVE CITY, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team started its dual meet season with a 9-0 victory at Grove City College on Tuesday, September 19.

Freshman Joshua Pinckney (Atlanta, Ga. / The Westminster Schools) and junior Julian Sweeney (Austin, Texas / Westlake) earned the first point of the match with an 8-0 score at third doubles. Sophomore Nicholas Calzolano (Hinsdale, Ill. / Hinsdale Central) and freshman Kailas Shekar (Saratoga, Calif. / Saratoga) then won by the same score at second doubles before the freshmen pair of Ray Boppana (Boxborough, Mass. / Acton Boxborough Regional) and Ben Ash (Johns Creek, Ga. / Johns Creek) won 8-2 at first doubles.

Ash was the first to finish singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the sixth position and Pinckney secured the match win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at fourth singles.

The Tartans will be in action again on Friday, September 22 and Saturday, September 23 when they host Duquesne University in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
