Tartans Drop Contest to Division I Duquesne

(HARMARVILLE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team, ranked 10th in Division III, took on Division I Duquesne on Saturday, February 3 in its first match of the spring season. The Tartans fell to the Dukes, 6-1, and are now 3-1 for the season.

Playing by Division I scoring rules, the Dukes took the doubles point with victories at first and third doubles. Winning for the Tartans at second doubles was senior Jeffrey Chen (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and sophomore Robert Levin (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) by a 6-4 score. Junior Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill./Boca Prep International School) and freshman Ben Ash (Johns Creek, Ga./Johns Creek) fell at first singles in a tightly contested match, 7-5.

The Dukes took a 2-0 lead after a sixth singles victory before freshman Kailas Shekar (Saratoga, Calif./Saratoga) won at fourth singles, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Duquesne then won the next four singles matches for the final 6-1 score.

The Tartans will next compete against Division I Saint Francis University on Saturday, February 10 at 2:00 p.m. at The Club Sport and Life in Monroeville, Pennsylvania.
