#9 Tartans Win Fourth Straight

(MONROEVILLE, Pa.) - The ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team won its fourth straight match on Sunday, April 15 when it topped 16th-ranked Kenyon College, 5-4, on the indoor courts at The Club Sport and Life in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. The Tartans are now 12-5 for the season.

Sophomore Robert Levin (Virginia Beach, Va. / Princess Anne) earned match point for the Tartans after rebounding from a first-set loss to earn a three-set victory, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

The Tartans held a 2-1 advantage after doubles with wins at first and third doubles. The 15th-ranked pair of junior Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill. / Boca Prep International School) and junior Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) won 8-7 (7-5) at the first position while sophomore Nicholas Calzolano (Hinsdale, Ill. / Hinsdale Central) and freshman Ray Boppana (Boxborough, Mass. / Acton Boxborough Regional) won at third doubles, 8-2.

Levine, ranked second in the nation, made the score 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-0 win at first singles before a win at second singles by Kenyon made it 3-2.

Freshman Kailas Shekar (Saratoga, Calif. / Saratoga) extended the Tartans' lead to 4-2 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at fourth singles. A three-set victory at third singles for Kenyon and a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win by Kenyon at sixth singles tied the match at 4-all before Levin earned the team win with all eyes watching.

The Tartans will put their win streak on the line Sunday, April 22 when John Carroll University visits Pittsburgh for a 10 a.m. match.
