Run in NCAA Tournament for #9 Tartans Ends at #7 Chicago

(CHICAGO, Ill.) - The ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team finished its run in the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship on Sunday at seventh-ranked Chicago. The Maroons earned a 5-2 win on their home court and the Tartans finish their season with a 15-8 record.

The Tartans picked up victories at second doubles and first singles. The second doubles pair of sophomore Nicholas Calzolano (Hinsdale, Ill. / Hinsdale Central) and freshman Ray Boppana (Boxborough, Mass. / Acton Boxborough Regional) won 8-4 and the Tartans trailed 2-1 after doubles play.

The other win for the Tartans came when the score was 4-1. Junior Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill. / Boca Prep International School) won at first singles, 7-6(8-6), 6-2, for his eighth straight win and 25th of the season.

The season continues for Levine and junior Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships on Thursday, May 24.
