Downing and Levine Place Fifth at ITA Cup

(ROME, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis senior pair of Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) and Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill. / Boca Prep International School) placed fifth at the ITA Cup on Saturday, October 13 at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. Downing also played in the singles bracket, placing sixth.

In the fifth-place doubles match, Downing and Levine battled back for a third-set tiebreaker win. The pair fell in the first set to University of Chicago's Tyler Raclin and Jeremy Yuan, 6-7 (5-7). The second set went the Tartans' way by a 7-5 score which forced the third set. The Tartans won the third-set tiebreaker by an 11-9 score.

Downing's singles match was played against Washington University's Ethan Hillis. Downing dropped the match, 6-3, 6-2.

Downing and Levine will next be in action in February when dual match play resumes.
