Tartans Open Second Half of Schedule Against Division I Duquesne

(HARMARVILLE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team, ranked 10th in Division III, took on Division I Duquesne University on Saturday in its first match of the spring season. The Tartans fell to the Dukes, 6-1, and even their dual match record at 1-1.

Playing by Division I scoring rules, the Dukes took the doubles point with victories at second and third doubles. Winning for the Tartans at first doubles were seniors Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) and Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill. / Boca Prep International School) by a 6-2 score.

The Tartans lone team point came at sixth singles when freshman Sam Gibson (Chico, Calif. / Pleasant Valley) won in straight sets over Graham Conron, 6-1, 6-2.

The Tartans will next compete at Oberlin College on Saturday, February 9 at 5:00 p.m.
