Downing Named UAA Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Senior Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week following his performance in 15th-ranked Tartans to a 5-4 thrilling victory over 14th-ranked Case Western Reserve University in Orlando, Florida.

The senior recorded two team points for the Cardinal and Gray with the first coming in doubles play, as he teamed with Daniel Levine and won 8-4 at the top spot over Jonathan Powell and Anthony Kanam. The senior then had the match clinching point winning by the scores of 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-3 over Kanam at second singles.

Carnegie Mellon will play seventh-ranked Amherst College on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. before concluding its spring trip with a match against ninth-ranked Wesleyan University at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
