Men’s Recruiting Class Named No. 1 by Tennis Recruiting Network

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Following his second year as the head men's tennis coach of Carnegie Mellon University, Mike Belmonte has earned the program its first number one ranking. Belmonte's 2019 recruiting class has earned the top Division III spot by Tennis Recruiting Network and sits among the top 25 of all mid major universities.

The 2019-20 Tartans will have three four-star recruits with two international players joining the team of seven returners. Each ranked as a four-star recruit, Matthew Poh hails from Manhattan Beach, California, Leo Wang from San Marino, California, and Jonathan Nottingham from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Raahil Doshi of Singapore previously held a universal tennis ranking before mandatory military service limited his playing action while Edward Chen of Shanghai primarily competed internationally.

While Carnegie Mellon has had a top 10 recruiting class every year since 2011, this is the program's first No. 1 ranking in school history.

"I quite literally scoured the country and the globe to assemble a group of recruits I believe is an ideal fit for Carnegie Mellon," said Belmonte. "Each one of these young men is bringing a set of skills that will contribute greatly to our cause next season, and I couldn't be more excited to usher them in and establish this next great generation of Tartans."

Tennis Recruiting Network enlists the help of a number of NCAA Division III coaches to aid in the rankings. While they do not publish a list of contributors, they appreciate their assistance.
